Lookup Crawford County Inmates

Crawford County inmate search starts with the jail roster and recent release list maintained by the Sheriff's Office. The Crawford County jail roster search can show current custody, booking details, charges, bond, and profile links, while state prison, probation, and parole records use a separate Missouri Department of Corrections lookup. Jail records are not the same as court records. Booking charges may change after court action, so custody details should be checked against the court case when case status matters.

Crawford County Jail Roster

The Crawford County Sheriff's Office operates the Crawford County Detention Center in Steelville and publishes a public roster for current inmates. Sheriff Darin Layman is listed on the official county Sheriff page. The Sheriff's Office address is 212 Third St., #BE, Steelville, MO 65565, phone 573-775-2125. The county page says the department provides countywide patrol through Missouri POST-certified deputies and hires detention officers for constant monitoring of the jail and prisoners.

The roster is a custody tool. It does not replace Case.net, the Circuit Clerk, or the full criminal case file. A roster charge can be a booking charge, a failure-to-appear charge, a probation-violation label, or another jail-facing entry. Filed court charges, pleas, disposition, sentence, and costs belong in Crawford County criminal court records and Crawford County arrest records and court charges.

The Sheriff's main website is the entry point for roster, jail, records, and contact information. The manifest image below comes from the Crawford County Sheriff's Office website.

Use the Crawford County Roster

The public roster has two main paths: current inmates and a 48-hour release list. The roster choice page is not a detailed search form. It routes users to the current custody list or the recent release list. The current roster page then shows booking records and profile links with pagination.

  1. Open the roster choice page.
  2. Select current inmates for people now held at the Crawford County Detention Center.
  3. Select 48-hour release to check recent releases.
  4. Review the roster list for booking number, booking date, charge text, bond, and profile link.
  5. Open a profile when more detail is available, then call the jail before relying on bond or case numbers.

The roster choice screen is shown in the image from the official Detention Center roster choice page.

Crawford County Roster Fields

The public roster was captured as browse and profile pages rather than a name-search form. It exposes list fields and profile links. For exact confirmation, call the jail at 573-775-2125. The jail profile warning says bond companies and people posting bail should contact staff for correct bail amount, charges, and case numbers.

Video Visitation Hours

Free video visitation is offered in the main lobby each day from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on a first-come, first-served basis. The captured official text did not provide remote video pricing, visitor approval forms, visit length, dress code, child visitor rules, or detailed attorney visit hours. Call 573-775-2125 before traveling because lockdowns, staffing, or facility rules can affect visits.

Bond and Booking Checks

Detainees eligible to bond may post bond 24 hours a day, but all bond conditions must be met before release. Cash-only bonds must be cash or cashier's checks. Personal checks are not accepted. Surety bonds require a professional bond agent. GPS conditions must be installed and functional before release. Online bond payment through AllPaid applies only for in-custody detainees, and the person paying needs the case number and bond amount.

Beginning January 1, 2025, a $10 bond fee applies to all bonds posted. Warrants may not be paid unless the defendant is in custody. These limits matter for families who find a roster profile and assume they can pay online right away. The detention center should be called first for current bail amount, charges, and case numbers.

Mail, Phones, and Funds

Detainees may receive pre-metered postcards only, no larger than 4x6. Postcards must be free of perfume or liquids. The jail rejects gloss pictures on postcards, ordinary letters, greeting cards, threats, obscene or illegal content, gang signs, contraband, order-of-protection violations, attempts to contact victims, and other prohibited content. Legal and privileged mail can include courts and attorneys. Publications must come directly from a publisher, distributor, or bona fide vendor, and books must come from a reputable bookstore with no hardback or leather-bound covers.

Detainee phones are operated by City Telecoin. New intakes are allowed two free phone calls per calendar year. Pod phones are available 9:00 a.m.-10:00 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 9:00 a.m.-11:00 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays, and the eve of major holidays. Funds can be added through City Telecoin or the City Telecoin app for detainee phone, media, and commissary services. City Telecoin is a vendor service, not a Sheriff's public-records app. Once funds are deposited, the money becomes the detainee's property, and the jail will not disclose account information to the public.

Detainees may have up to 10 photos sized 4x6 at a time. Photos are screened, scanned, and uploaded to detainee files. Certified mail is not accepted for ordinary personal correspondence, though some release identification and legal documents requiring a signature may be accepted.

Records the Jail Will Not Discuss

The Jail Division page places limits on public information. Staff do not pass messages to detainees, discuss information about a detainee, discuss arrest details beyond charges, give public court dates or times, discuss discipline or lockdown status, or answer medical questions. Family may bring chronic-illness medications prescribed by the detainee's primary physician, but the jail physician controls care after intake and not all medications are accepted.

For court dates, charges as filed, and case status, use Case.net or the Circuit Clerk. For arrest reports and incident reports, use the Sheriff's records request process. For state prison, probation, or parole status, use the state offender search.

Those limits are important for families comparing several records. The jail can confirm current custody and bond details, but it is not the office for certified court copies, prosecutor filing decisions, driver license consequences, or confidential medical updates. Each record type has its own custodian.

Missouri DOC Offender Search

The Missouri Department of Corrections offender search is separate from the Crawford County jail roster. It covers active state prison, probation, and parole offenders. It does not cover every discharged offender, and some offenders may be excluded for safety, security, or confidentiality. Use it when the person is not in the Crawford County Detention Center but may be in state custody or supervision.
